Choco (short for his full name, “Chocolate Peanut Butter Hershey the Third”) is a 10 lb. playful, curious, loyal, noble chihuahua mix, who will make a great companion to experienced households. Once he gets to know you, he will give you endless love and will protect you with his life! Also, he’s handsome and he knows it, which shows as he is very proud to wear any outfit or accessory. Choco is approximately 7 years old and not a morning person. He is happy to sleep in and take his first walk of the day at noon. He does love his walks though, and will jump for joy (impressively high!) several times when he sees you pull out the leash. During the day, he spends most of his time sleeping, and prefers to be in a bed near you. Although he is not a lap dog, he will follow you from room to room to keep tabs on you, making him a dedicated Work from Home/Remote School Buddy. In the evening, he goes for a second walk and has a playful burst of energy right afterwards that lasts about 20 minutes. A good game of “catch me if you can” around the house is enough to satisfy his playtime. He can also occupy his time chewing or licking his toys. Although he will sun himself in the backyard on nice days, Choco doesn’t really need a yard and is just happy being near his humans in a cozy bed. His favorite thing to do during these colder months is to burrow in his own “cave”, which can be his bed flipped upside-down, a pile of stuffed animals, or a big towel. He just loves being warm! Regarding house manners, Choco is housebroken and walks nicely on the leash. He is satisfied with doing his business twice a day and his foster family has not had any accidents. Choco is very food motivated and very trainable. He is not a fan of baths, but tolerates them just fine. He generally rides in the car OK and enjoys being in there with family, but he can get carsick if he has just eaten. Choco is also crate trained but prefers to be out of his crate. As Choco has been a foster dog during the shelter-in-place period, he hasn't been left by himself at home. When someone goes out, he does tend to miss that person and will patiently wait by the door or window until that family member comes back. Choco would do best in a quiet, experienced household. As his energy needs are low, he would be a fine apartment dog, although he does bark at the usual suspects (delivery people, garbage truck, etc.). Because Choco has been moved around a bit, he is a foster-to-adopt situation and will need adopters with experience. He will need time to decompress, adjust, and gain confidence. Prior to adoption, all dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm, vaccinated (including rabies, if age appropriate) and microchipped.
