Star is a 47 pound American Bulldog mix. When Star was found on the streets in San Leandro, she had just had a litter of puppies and was suffering from several dog bite wounds to her head. Today, Star has all the food she wants, loads of toys, a soft bed and lots of love from her foster mom and dad.    Star is a cutie who loves to please. She is easy to train since she lives for treats and never gets bored of them. She gets very excited when you take out the leash. She thrives in a predictable environment. She is happy staying home and hanging out with her human companions. Chewing on her kongs and squeaky toys followed by naps is her favorite way to spend the day. She loves to play fetch, but after a few rounds, she will lie down and chew the tennis ball. She speaks with her nose and makes sweet pig-like sounds when excited or impatient.

Star is currently taking a daily medication to help her manage her anxiety. She can be anxious when left alone at night and can bark, but is good during the daytime. It is expected she will need to remain on medication through transition and may need long term help with anxiety. Star's forever family will want to work closely with their vet to help Star navigate the world as an anxious dog.

Due to her history, we strongly believe Star would do best in a home where she is the only pet. She is cautious around other dogs and can become aroused when encountering dogs on daily walks. Her fosters have been working with her on positive reinforcement in stressful situations, and Star will benefit from continued, high-quality positive training. Star has prey drive, so would not do well with cats.

Star is not a fan of car rides. She can become stressed and carsick, but does better with a combination of soothing smells and a steady stream of jelly beans.

Prior to adoption, all dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm, vaccinated (including rabies, if age appropriate) and microchipped.
